The eponymous miner talks to the reader in the first person throughout the novel. It is certainly an odd novel, but I enjoyed reading it especially as its unusual structure was unpredictable. In my ignorance of classic Japanese literature I didn't realise that Soseki is one of their lauded authors although apparently The Miner, an experimental work, is often excluded from his collected writings. This is my fourth book towards Sophie And Suze's NetGalley Challenge and I am also counting The Miner as my 1900s read for the Goodreads / Bookcrossing Decade Challenge as it was first published in 1908. ![]() ![]() I received a copy of The Miner by Netsume Soseki from its publishers, Gallic Books, via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review. ![]() 5/9/2023 0 Comments Types of love cs lewis![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the case of all other types of love, there is some attraction-some reason the person cares for another. In that case, people love without any personal attraction. Charity, according to Lewis, is the highest form of love. He goes into depth on each subject, but his true message seems to be that the four are almost always intertwined and that they are at their most intense and satisfying level when they are connected to a love for God. Lewis talks about loves in terms of affection, friendship, Eros, and charity. In the book "The Four Loves," Lewis will take the reader on a quest to discover and explore the various types of love felt, given, and received by humans. However, most people still use the word love in that context. Lewis, the author of The Four Loves, says some people are glad the English language uses both the words "love" and "like." He says his own generation was told not to say "I love strawberries," but to use the work "like" in that instance. ![]() ![]() ![]() Although she's never laid eyes on the inn's owner, an unlikely friendship blossoms between them as they leave daily notes for each other, and before long, Maddie finds herself falling for her mysterious host-a man likely many years her senior-and a man she's never even met. If you’d like to read about how a group of young rebels was going to bring down the Great Library and save the world from such a horrible, book-less society, this is the series for you. Thousands more were left in the Great Library’s Black Archives to rot, because the knowledge in those books were too “dangerous” to be released to the public. Printing presses were never started, and people read “library-approved” books on “Blanks” that were replicas (think tablets and ebooks, although I don’t think Caine explicitly said they were in digital formats) of the originals kept by the library.
