Here, for the first time, Niccolo Polo, father of Marco, shares Altairs remarkable story: his ongoing battle with the Templar conspiracy a family life that is. I read a couple of good ones in the past, but sometimes they just seem unnecessary, or, occasionally, tacky. I’ve always been a little wary of movie and game tie-in books. So, knowing my enthusiasm for the franchise, for Christmas 2018, my brother gave me the book Assassins Creed: The Secret Crusade by Oliver Bowden. ![]() I first picked up one of the games last year, and since then, I’ve only liked the world more and more. He was a valuable horse, though in the first few weeks of Tier's journey the avarice in the eyes of the ragged men in the areas torn by years of war had as much to do with hunger as gold. A warhorse bred and trained to carry a nobleman, Skew had carried Tier, a baker's son, through two battles, six skirmishes, and, by rough reckoning, almost a thousand miles of trail. He'd scavenged both the horse and sword from men he'd killed: the sword in his first year of war, the horse earlier this year when his own mount had been killed beneath him. The horse, like the sword Tier carried, was of far better quality than his clothing. His horse snorted at him in reply, or more likely at a bothersome drop of rain, and continued its steady progress down the trail. ![]() "That's smoke ahead, not just mist - we'll find a nice village inn where we can warm up." ![]() 5/12/2023 0 Comments The handmaid's tale atwood![]() ![]() In the short time since the announcement of Handmaid's Tale Season 6, the cast and crew have been unable to escape the one burning question to which everyone is keen to know the answer: when will we get to see it? For fencer A, only improvement in consistency in distance from the target would improve scoring. Using three complementary regression approaches, we showed that each fencer could improve scoring by changing specific aspects of their kinematics. Our results showed that the two fencers exhibited significantly different kinematics, coordination and scoring. Scoring success was determined with a conventional scoring box. High speed video (650 fps) captured the motion of the tip of the foil, blade of the foil, and limb joints the latter were used to calculate joint angular velocities, hand height and distance throughout the flick. Two elite foil fencers of similar skill were instructed to execute flicks at a dummy target that mimicked the opponent’s shoulder. In particular, we asked what aspect of the movement each individual fencer can change to improve their likelihood of scoring. The aim of our research was to identify the kinematic variables that significantly influence scoring success in two elite foil fencers. The flick is a high-level action that involves bending the blade toward the opponent, much like a whip or fly-fishing cast. Although previous research addressed kinematics of the lunge and fleche, there are currently no studies on the flick. Sport fencing is an open-skilled combat sport practiced around the world. ![]() 5/11/2023 0 Comments Dragon Unleashed by Grace Draven![]() ![]() Siora and Gharek of Cabast find themselves right in the middle of all of this uproar, tied together almost by fate. On top of this, there is a mysterious creature consuming the souls of the dead around the empire – something not everyone is aware of, but which can be sensed by a change in the air and a sense of wrongness. The change in power has turned many of the empress’ old favorites into wanted men, as the people of the country rebel against their old tyrants. To set the scene – the evil empress of the Krael Empire was killed at the end of Dragon Unleashed, leaving a power vacuum in the land (literally and figuratively). While it’s technically a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading the other books in the Fallen Empireseries first, not only because they are great books but because they also develop the backstory for this one very well. While that will remain as my favorite of her books, Raven Unveiled is another strong offering from the author. Grace Draven has come to be one of my favorite authors since I discovered her book Radiance in 2015. ![]() 5/11/2023 0 Comments Author of slade house![]() Some of them used that money to purchase their own freedom. It is an historically accurate depiction of how enslaved Africans were forced to build the White House for very little compensation. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Brick by Brick by Charles R. It is so disingenuous to present this story in this way, and it entirely erases the legacy of the Black bodies that did the labor to put up the building. What is so egregious about this book is the fact that it presents the creation and building of the White House as George Washington's work, without so much as mentioning the enslaved people who worked to build it. I was a teacher at a school that serves almost entirely Black students, and our librarian chose this book for our library time. ![]() ![]() I had the misfortune of being present for a reading of this book a few years ago in "celebration" of President's Day. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() His approach-the cause of all the criticism-is often obscure, because he professes no single theory, and he often contradicts himself. Most importantly for our purposes, however, Žižek uses psychoanalytic theory to analyze films and apply their meanings within an anti-capitalist framework. He ran for president of Slovenia in 1991, and a triumphal portrait of Stalin hangs in the anteroom of his apartment in Ljubljana. Here are some facts about Žižek: he is a film critic, he has written 75 books, and he is a communist. After hearing Žižek speak at Tufts on November 8th, I began to think that this hilarious yet deadly serious man deserves our attention-not because of the strength of his hyperbolic, contrarian arguments, but because he encourages the kind of lust for rebellion that our sense of postmodern irony tends to deride. Noam Chomsky has called Žižek’s dialectical style “theoretical posturing which has no content.” The New Republic has called him “the most despicable philosopher in the West.” Yet these attacks on Žižek only seem to increase his influence he is now one of the most influential public intellectuals in the world. In the eyes of some critics, Slavoj Žižek’s freewheeling iconoclasm makes him a dangerous cult leader. ![]() |
